QuickTip: Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts are great and can save you a lot of "mouse" time. Most Mac applications play host to not only the systemwide keyboard shortcuts but their own as well. With so many shortcuts a user could get lost, but there are a few that are rather universal in Mac OS X. Controlling Documents:

  • Command S - Save
  • Shift Command S - Save As...
  • Command W - Close
  • Command Q - Quit
  • Command P - Print
  • TAB - Move from Field to Field
  • Shift TAB - Move Backwards From Field to Field

Formatting Text:

  • Command A - Select All
  • Shift Command A - De-Select All
  • Command X - Cut
  • Command C - Copy
  • Command V - Paste
  • Command B - Bold
  • Command I - Italics
  • Command U - Underline

Mistakes:

  • Command Z - Undo
  • Shift Command Z - Reverse Undo or Redo
