Since the iPad was released earlier this year their has been talk of when AT&T would be allowed to actually sell the iPad along side it's cousin the iPhone. (AT&T has an exclusive contract with Apple for the iPhone) AT&T already provides the data plan for the iPad 3G, but can't sell the iPad in stores or on-line. While AT&T was shut out of selling the iPad, BestBuy was allowed from day one as was Radio Shack. While this press release doesn't answer why the iPad wasn't sold by AT&T from day one, like the iPhone, it does state that more than 2,200 AT&T stores nationwide will be selling only the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. Of course it's not surprising that AT&T won't be selling the Wi-Fi only iPad, no data plans are available for those three models. No subsidies are being offered on any of the models, so the rate plans remain the same, $14.99/mo for 25 MB of data and $25.99/month for 250 MB of data. It's unlikely that there will be subscription model for the device, but many hope that AT&T might raise the data cap on the $25.99 plan. Originally the iPad had a $30/month plan that included unlimited data.
